Overconfidence, Financial Advice Seeking and Household Portfolio Under-Diversification

This paper examines the relationship between overconfidence and losses from under-diversification among Dutch investors. We find that a lack of proper portfolio diversification is positively associated with overconfidence. Part this mediated through lower propensity overconfident individuals to hire professional financial adviser. use data 2005 wave DNB Household Survey provides us detailed 257 proxy for by exploiting difference measured self-assessed literacy, in regression model (with without mediation) explain actual households return could have been obtained selecting on efficient frontier equivalent risk. Our results contribute current discussion policy makers role advice self-perceptions household decision-making.
